European Championship EMX250 – France – 20-21.08.2022
The final round of the European Championship EMX250 went down in France at the track of Saint Jean d’Angely, where drought affected the preparation of the track and consequently caused several problems to riders.
The riders of the Fantic Factory Team Maddii struggled in the qualifying session and did not find the right grip with the track, which featured hard pack ground. The riders could not use their Fantic XX 250 machineries to the fullest of their potential so Hakon Osterhagen set the 14th time and Cornelius Tondel the 15th.
Hakon and Cornelius were phenomenal at the start of the first moto, where they took the first and second place soon after the first corner. As the race continued, Cornelius got hit by a rival but luckily he did not injure himself and started all over and eventually classified 22nd. Osterhagen left rivals behind but slipped unexpectedly and lost ground. The Norwegian rider fell again and classified 16th.
After crashing during race1, Hakon Osterhagen suffered a minor injury to one finger and decided not to take part in the second heat.
Tondel was the author of a solid start in the second moto, where he classified third. Cornelius lost some positions at first but recovered quickly so that he classified seventh.
Cornelius Tondel ended the season with the third position in the standings.
Marco Maddii: “The riders of the EMX250 experienced a challenging weekend, but Cornelius classified third in the Championship standings. We’re happy with this result but also a bit disappointed because at the beginning of the season we were looking forward to achieving other results. However, we showed that our machinery is valid and competitive. Hakon suffered a small injury but it’s nothing severe and next week he’ll take part in the Italian Championship round”.
Cornelius Tondel: “After what happened in Sardinia, I was no longer able to express myself as I wanted but I’m happy with the result anyway. I want to thank my team and Fantic for the amazing bike they gave me and that allowed me to reach such results”.
