Cas Valk extended his leadership in the Championship standings

MXGP Round 9

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP EMX125 Round 4 – Madrid – 28-29.05.2022

The track of Intu Xanadù, located on the outskirts of Madrid, hosted the MXGP ninth round and this appointment also marked the comeback of Nicholas Lapucci to the World Championship. The other two young riders enrolled in the European Championship EMX125, Cas Valk and Alexis Fueri, were ready to battle it out for the victory of the Spanish race.

Cas Valk had an amazing feeling with the artificial Spanish track and starred in the qualifying of the 125cc, where he set the best time of his group. Alexis Fueri classified with an excellent eighth place.

As usual, the first moto of the 125cc took place on Saturday. Cas and Alexis were the authors of an extraordinary start and took the lead of the race after the third corner. The two riders of the Fantic Factory Team Maddii were unbeatable, and rivals could not keep up with their race pace. At the fifth lap Fueri took the lead and never let it go till the checkered flag. Teammate Valk classified right behind him.

Alexis Fueri crashed with other riders at the first corner of the second moto and had to start from the bottom. Alexis was phenomenal in working his way up and ended up 12th. Cas Valk faced a tough start too and took the seventh spot in the first lap; even though Cas tried to recover he had to feel happy with the fifth place.

Cas Valk classified fourth, tied for points with the second and third classified in the Championship standings, and did not step on the podium because of a discriminating factor of his result from the second moto. Alexis Fueri was sixth.

The two riders of the Fantic Factory Team Maddii are still holding the first and second spot in the Championship standings.

In the MXGP, Nicholas Lapucci got back to the track after a long absence. The weekend was featured by scorching hot temperatures which were very challenging for riders, including Nicholas, who classified 21st in the time practice.

In the qualifying, Lapucci struggled to find the right feeling and despite he tried to recover after a tough start he could only reach the 23rd place.

At the first corner of the first moto Nicholas was pushed out of the track and had to start all over again. Thanks to an excellent performance Lapucci eventually classified 19th.

Lapucci experienced a solid start in the second moto but crashed badly and was forced to abandon the race.

The next appointment with the MXGP and EMX is scheduled next week, in France, at the track of Erneé.

Marco Maddii: “The weekend had a double outcome for the riders of the 125cc. They were perfect on Saturday’s time practice and in Race1 where they took the lead of the moto. Unfortunately, in the second heat Alexis crashed at the start and Cas could not pull away. We’re still holding the first and second place in the standings anyway. Nicholas was the author of an excellent recovery in race1, it’s a shame he crashed in the next moto. Lapucci must continue his work for him to get used to his machinery”.
