GP winner Cas Valk took back red plate

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP EMX125 Round3 – Latvia – 23-24.04.2022

As the Easter break came to an end, the Fantic Factory Team Maddii got back on track for the third round of the European Championship EMX125. Nicholas Lapucci missed the MXGP appointment due to the injury suffered at his home GP in Trentino. However the Tuscan rider should be back to action for the second round of the Italian Championship scheduled next week in Ponte a Egola.

Alexis Fueri, red plate holder, did not do great in the time practice as he did not find a good feeling with the sandy track of Kegums and had to feel happy with the eighth time recorded in his group. On the other hand, Cas Valk set the second fastest time in group2.

Fueri pulled away at the start of Race1 and thanks to a fast pace took the lead right after the first corner eventually picking up speed and leaving rivals far behind. Unfortunately Alexis made a mistake and crashed violently after the final jump.

Following a tough start Cas Valk desperately tried to make up ground and made it greatly. Thanks in fact to a phenomenal race pace he classified third.

Luckily for Alexis Fueri he did not get hurt after the crash and lined up at the starting gate of moto2.

Cas Valk was the author of a stunning second heat where the Dutch rider ruled the start of the moto and took the leadership. Valk won the race thanks to an unbeatable race pace.

Alexis Fueri, affected by the awful crash suffered on Saturday, did what he could and decided to be wise while trying not to make any mistake, so he eventually ended up with a solid seventh place.

Cas Valk won the GP of Latvia and is the current Championship leader again. Fueri is still holding the second spot in the standings despite scoring zero points in Race1.

The next appointment in the calendar for the Fantic Factory Team Maddii will be in Maggiora, on May 7th-8th.

Marco Maddii commented on the race: “I’m very happy with this weekend and with Cas’ performance, because he did a great job in the second heat – probably his best performance so far. I’m so sorry for Alexis who’s still holding the second spot after all; the bad crash he suffered could have been an injury but luckily nothing bad happened and today he tried his best. I’m sure he’ll have better races. There’s still a long way to go and we must keep our energy focused”.

Cas Valk: “I couldn’t keep the rhythm that I wanted in Race1 so I struggled in the first part of the session. The second one went much better – I took the holeshot and I’m very happy with the result and for taking back the red plate”.
